Hair Extensions 101

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

There are three ways we can do hair extensions here at HAIRitage. We can tape it in, which is the most common, you can slip hair in, or you can revive it, which is a halo that sits on the crown of your head. All three methods come from the company we partner with, Easihair Pro. Visit them here: https://www.easihairpro.com/hair-pieces/revive-hair-pieces/

Is it safe?

Absolutely! Many people wonder if they will lose their own hair if they tape in extensions. You will not lose any more hair than what should occur with your natural shedding. When we put extensions in your hair, we use a sandwich method whereby a 2-inch nonslip adhesive adheres the extension to your natural hair. We sandwich an extension onto your natural hair and then another extension. We currently use the top-rated hair adhesive in the country.

Can I wear my hair up?

Yes. You can wear your hair in a ponytail, in an updo, and a half up half down fashion, with just a little extra care you learn about at your appointment. When you get your extensions, you put your hair into a ponytail at a slight angle. It may take you a couple of extra seconds, but you can wear your hair up.

When do I need to replace my extensions?

Your extensions would need to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks as they grow out with your natural hair. You return to the salon with clean shampooed hair, where we remove, re-tape, and replace your extensions. You can reuse your extensions three or four times before they need to be replaced entirely.

How much do extensions cost?

Your extension cost will be determined by whether you want volume AND length or just volume or length. HAIRitage offers a free consultation to find out precisely what you are looking to get out of your extensions. Synthetic hair is cheaper than other options.

At Hairitage, we can do a basic style called, Stairway to Heaven, with three sandwiches on each side of your head; it takes 30 minutes of time and uses one box of hair. A Stairway to Heaven costs around $200.

Hair extensions can range up to 24-inch extensions using six boxes of hair, and that can cost thousands of dollars and take hours to put in. You will also need a take-home kit with the brush and clarifying shampoo. The shampoo is always sulfate-free and nitrate-free. There is a dry version of the shampoo and a leave-in conditioner kit that costs $70.

What if I have highly textured or curly hair?

Some curly hair is available, but currently, we do not service highly textured hair. There are rainbow extensions available, especially if people like an intense splash of color.
